There are stories that we have never shared because we simply don’t know what it’s for or who’s going to listen to them
Because we don’t know its importance, because maybe it’s small to us
Because we don’t know that it’s big for someone else
Because we have mouths, but we don’t always have ears
And because the imbalance makes us numb
We are tired of being something because we’re told we’re nothing, and so we became nothing
There are voices inside us but we were taught to be silent
So we stay quiet, so we mute ourselves
Because everything that other people say is more important to us than everything we have to say
And the loud always wins because they seem stronger
And when men scream at women it’s called strength and not emotionality
And when dads hit their kids it’s called discipline and not violence
And when moms shame their daughters it’s called a lesson and not bullying
But what is it then to us if we’re watching
Especially watching those things being done to us
Who are we to speak if our mouths are sealed by those hands
If our hands are tied, if our dignity is gone, if our confidence is non-existent
If we get trauma and they don’t see it because they think they didn’t do it
Because how can a noble man hit his own child
Because how can a dignified woman bully another woman
Because how can a gentleman be ungentle
Because of what do we think they’re right?
Because we’re done giving in, almost giving up
We’re done taking credits for others’ mistakes
We’re done being something else than we are
And because we’re done trying to conceal the fact
That there are stories we have never shared to anyone
Because of fear
