If someone’s at war with themselves
They will either make you wage war against yourself, too
Or you’ll be killed in the battle of the two of you
Your fight for peace won’t make them put their weapons down
If they won’t hoist their own white flag
Of a will to let calmness fill their mind
And let love grow between you
You can’t take the soldier out of him
Only fix his wounds but he’ll bleed again
He’ll be a mess once more
While you’re trying to fix what wasn’t broken by your hands
Maybe not even his
But promise me to carry your heart safely in your own hands
And not give it to a soldier
Who’s willing to die in chaos and neglected pain
You deserve peace, you deserve love
You deserve to have a heart that doesn’t have to be healed
Just because you fell in love
You deserve healing for that broken heart
Then love and warmth to hold it together and allow it to beat loudly

And so do I
