Why Would You Want To Leave?

Story

“Why would you want to leave?”

That’s the question everyone asks when you tell them you’re going to move to someplace new.

What they’re truly asking is “What more could you want that this place couldn’t offer you?”

And you want to scream at the top of your lungs. Something about adventure, about freedom, about growth, about belonging. But you stay quiet. Nothing you say will ever change their minds, just like how nothing they say will ever change yours.

After all, uprooting one’s life to live someplace new and foreign is not for just anyone.

♡

In fact, it only ever happens to the select few who were hit with the epiphany that they aren’t happy with the current life they’re leading, or that the place they’re living in isn’t where they want to be right now and that something needs to change — and this revelation is usually triggered by some life-changing event, often catastrophic ones.

Some may view it as a pitiable act, to move someplace else and “run away” from who you are and where you’re from, but I view it as a transformative one.

It takes immense courage to acknowledge that you’re not happy in your current situation and that your environment needs to change. It takes even more guts and resilience to actually do everything in your power to make it happen.

♡

So move, I say. Move to where the sun’s glow fills you up with warmth, not frustration. Move to where you feel liberated. Move to where you feel inspired. Move to where you feel the happiest.

Do it for love, do it for knowledge, do it for adventure. Do it to heal, to grow and to discover; to learn more about yourself, the world and its people.

Keep moving until you find a place that makes you want to stay.
