Story

THINGS I’M GRATEFUL FOR

  1. The sound of rain hitting the roof
  2. The laughter of kids when it’s snowing
  3. Sand under our feet
  4. The ability to daydream
  5. Words on paper

You know me but you don’t understand.

You know I like the colour red, but you don’t understand that’s because it’s your favourite colour, too.

You know I like rain, but you don’t understand that’s because it allows me to stay inside all day.

You know I like reading, but you don’t understand that’s because reading creates a reality I’m never going to have.

You know I like writing, but you don’t understand that’s because I can’t handle real conversations. You know I’m shy, but you don’t understand that’s because I used to be a child with no fears.

You know I’m not scared of death, but you don’t understand that’s because I don’t know how to live.

You know me, but you don’t understand me.

All I am is me

I wanna be that girl you see reading on the bus. All I am is that girl you see with wrinkles on her forehead, worried she’s on the wrong route. I wanna be that girl you see enjoying her tea at the coffee shop. All I am is that girl not even entering the shop, too afraid to be alone, wondering what others might think about her. I wanna be that girl you look at and wonder if she’s even real. All I am is that girl you look at and know perfectly good she’s real, because she’s normal. Nothing special. I wanna be that girl that dances in the field at 2 am, jamming to her favourite music. All I am is that girl that stays awake until 4 am, planning out her life. I wanna be that girl that’s not afraid of anything. All I am is that girl that’s even afraid of her own dreams.

She doesn’t trust herself. I wanna be that girl.

All I am is me.
